PSYCHODYNAMIC PSYCHOTHERAPY

Psychodynamic psychotherapy contrast shallow solution-focused and quick-fix types of treatment. Psychodynamic therapy is often long-term and uniquely personal. The approach values phenomenological perspectives and private experience and aims to inspire insight into unconscious thoughts and feelings.

Throughout treatment, patients are helped to go deeper on specific issues. Patients are encouraged to reflect on early and current experiences and relationships and explore their impact on self-concept and wellbeing. Psychodynamic psychotherapy may be an especially good fit for people struggling with long-term, recurrent problems and those who wish to expand their psychic life.

CONTEMPORARY PSYCHOANALYSIS

Contemporary psychoanalysis is effective and in-depth, requiring sessions multiple times per week to inspire dynamic results. Meeting twice or more per week helps access traction on complex issues and allows us to slow down and thoughtfully process experiences in a comprehensive way that honors past and psychic influences.

High achievers and successful professionals often seek out intensive psychoanalytic work to address long-standing patterns that are ingrained in their routines and relationships. Kathryn's contemporary approach to psychoanalysis is well suited for the demanding schedules of modern professionals and parents.

Kathryn graduated from a five-year post-graduate training program at Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis, where is is currently the co-director of the licensure qualifying program. In her training, she learned about the theories and practices of relational psychoanalysis. Use of the couch is optional.
